Queen Elizabeth II Gold Sovereigns 2000-2015
Queen facing right wearing a tiara, initials IRB. denoting designer Ian Rank-Broadley raised below truncation. St. George mounted with sword attacking the dragon, streamer flowing from St George's helmet. The date appears below the exergue line at the bottom with the letters B.P. to the right.
After producing only the proof sovereigns from 1983-1999, the Royal Mint returned to the production of the circulation sovereign, and it has remained ever present since. 2002 saw the one off special design shield reverse coin, 2005 features a contemporary George & Dragon reverse with 2012 again seeing a new reverse design. Most years feature the classic Pistrucci reverse with the Ian Rank-Broadley Queen Elizabeth II obverse running from 2000-2015.
Special design Reverses :
2002: Shield design based on the original Victorian (1838-1887) Ensigns Armorial with plain shield surrounded by laurel leaves and crown. The initials TN denoting designer Timothy Noad placed within laurel leaves to the right of the shield.
2005: Contemporary design of St George slaying the dragon with sword and carrying shield. Design by Timothy Noad although his initials do not appear on the coin. The date below wing of the dragon slightly to the left of center.
2012: The design by Sculptor 'Paul Day' was the winning entry in the Royal Mints competition. The depiction of George& Dragon shows the Dragon in a fiercer light.
The example you will receive will be 'uncirculated' - and will have been struck at the Royal mint's HQ at Liantrisant, Cardiff, Wales, after the closure of the Tower Mint in London in 1975.
These date examples are ideal as presents or will allow entire date run series to be collected at a pace which suits buyers. Please note the full set of 16 Sovereigns is also available in this listing without presentation box.
